Pursuits
We have three transformative pursuits: experiences, education and research. Our commitment to elevating the UT educational and research experience will increase our impact and improve lives in the communities where we live, work and serve. Here’s how we’ll measure our impact.
Experiences
Generate life changing experiences for students, faculty and staff
Our goal is to increase student engagement and support every UT student so they excel in the classroom, career, and life. We’ll also increase alumni, community and public service involvement, and improve faculty and staff satisfaction and retention rates through professional development and mentorship. We must ignite a sense of belonging university-wide and modernize UT’s IT infrastructure, systems, data, processes, and governance in the process.

Education
Empower our students with an intellectually and personally transformative education
Preparing our students to become leaders and trailblazers in their communities and professions is vital to our aspiration to be the highest-impact public research university in the world. We’ll innovate undergraduate, graduate, and lifelong learning curricula, integrating instruction with experience, research and service while offering interdisciplinary, modern degrees and continued professional education.
Research
Become the highest impact research university in the world
Our research is defined by innovation, boldness, and excellence and is supported by state-of-the art infrastructure and influential scholarly and creative collections and libraries. To achieve our aspiration, we’ll continue to expand and tackle global challenges and opportunities in three areas of research focus: Energy and Environment, Technology and Society, Health and Well-Being. We’ll accelerate groundbreaking research in all fields and bring more UT innovations to market through technology and research commercialization than any other institution.

Life Sciences Innovation In Action
Professor Jason McLellan’s team discovered spike proteins that became the foundation for COVID-19 vaccines. During the first year of vaccinations, nearly 20 million deaths were prevented because of COVID-19 vaccines, many of them featuring the McLellan Lab’s technology. As a result, Jason received the university’s inaugural President’s Research Impact Award.
